trams on Trotsky Street, Odessa, Ukraine, mid-1920s


Early Soviet Communist leader Leon Trotsky was sent by his father to Odessa at the age of 9 to be educated, and he was enrolled in an historically German school, which became Russified during his years there.  No doubt this street was named after him after the Bolshevik revolution, but compulsorily renamed after Trotsky fell out with Stalin.
